Scouting as a landscape photographer is one of the things, that I often do and it is necessary in order to continue to bring better and better shots. One has to look and image what type of shot one is looking for. I was looking for a hill type of shot that I can do either a sunrise or sunset. If possible I would want to do an area that i can possibly do both. If there is an area that is well known like a state or national park, one can just get that location and fine some places to shoot. If it is a state or national park, one can just go to that area and shoot without dropping a pin on their maps. If it is a big enough State or National Park, one could still drop a pin so that one can go to that location again. You might want to keep your locations private and not make it public so that people won't flock to that location because the last thing a photographer wants to do is give away that location and have that location get ruined by other photographers. A particular landscape photographer, that I follow on YouTube, has that policy, in order to protect the integrity of that special area and the respect the locals.
